Hi, I am Patricia , I just signed up to the group
Erika, could you suggest a nice and cheap hotel in Delhi? we plan to stay there one night.
At the beginning and end of my trip last year, I stayed at Hotel RAK International (http://www.hotelrakinternational.com/index.php) in Paharganj, main backpacker district in Delhi. It was about $10 a night and the main guy at the front desk was very helpful. It's central and a 5 minute walk to the metro station and train station. It's a very basic room in a very budget area, but it's all I needed and I was pleased with my stay. I haven't stayed anywhere else in Delhi, but there are some nicer hotels in the Connaught Place area.
Thank you Erika, how far is that hotel from the airport ?
It's about half an hour, maybe a bit more. They also arrange airport pick-up if you need it. Details about that are on the website. When will you be there? I will probably stay there again, but not sure about my dates yet.
ok, we arrive early Feb 1st , do you think it is better to buy the train ticket in advance or is it possible to do it the day before in Delhi?
Trains in India get full very quickly so it's always best to buy in advance. My train recommendation is the Dehradun Shtabdi Express (12017). It leaves New Delhi train station (5 min walk from RAK) at 6:50am and arrives in Haridwar at 11:25. It's about $10 and includes food and drink. From Haridward you have to take a bus to Rishikesh (a little over half an hour and costs about a dollar).
Howdy y'all! An option to taking the train might be taking a flight to Dehradun, which is less than an hour's drive from Rishikesh. You might wanna check to see if you can book that flight from abroad, so you don't have to keep wondering about whether train tickets will be available. One website to check out would be makemytrip.com.
Pahar Ganj is full of cheap backpacker accommodations and is next to the New Delhi Railway Station (in Central New Delhi). But if you wanna avoid that (you can guess what backpacker destinations in India are like), and do not need to take a train, you can stay closer to the airport, which is in SXSW New Delhi. Again, makemytrip.com and yatra.com should have a number of hotels listed in most areas, starting just under $20.
Hi everyone! I am going through the process of signing up for February. I am so excited! I just sent for my Visa. Does anyone know how long it generally takes to get their Visa in the mail?
