Have no Attitude

Yoga Teacher training India Today I would like to bring up the topic of attitude. Not about having a positive attitude, not about the power of mind, but of the benefit of sometimes having no attitude. I have had an attitude towards things and people all my life.

Attitude is something that helps shape both the ego (-) and our unique expression (+), so as we grow up we need to have an attitude. We need to decide where we’re going what we like, what we don’t like, to mold our lives into how we want…

If I could turn back the clock one year, what would I do at this precise moment? I would have lunch at Krishna Cottage with some friends from my TTC, unknowing of what would lie ahead. The wonderful guys working in the kitchen would be carrying out pots and trays with steaming vegetables, dall and rice. Some students would sit in silence, contemplating Roshan’s philosophy lecture, others would be preparing for going down to Ganga for a bath or going shopping in Ram Jhula or Laxman…

Living a Miraculous Life

Yoga Teacher Training India What is the key to having a miraculous life? A life where we are constantly surprised by unexpected positive events or experiences? Miracles happen all the time, all over the world to every one of us, almost on a daily basis. There’s really nothing extraordinary about miracles, it just about whether we notice them or not. Whether we allow our mind to see the natural becoming supernatural and the supernatural becoming natural.

It is in our mind that we determine what we…

Immensity in the Undefined

Yoga Teacher training India It is said that love is oneness and everyone who has truly loved knows the feeling. I’m not talking about lust or romance but of real, deep love that has been through the journey of disappointment, anger, anger, sadness and come through to the other side with deeper understanding. Love becomes complicated because we confuse relationships with love and we always try to squeeze love into a relationship box and put a label on it, define it and rule it. But love cannot be defined,…

From Parklife to India

Yoga Teacher Training India - Blog Almost everyone would like to travel long distances in order to get away from their regular life, gain a new perspective, relax and have time to listen to one's inner self. One's hobby sometimes determines the travel destination.

Some are curious about old civilizations and prefer to visit places like Rome, Egypt, the Yucatan Peninsula.  A penguin lover would love to go Antarctica – it costs $10,000 and warm fish soup is included. When it comes to the yoga…

Life goes on

Yoga Certification India Today I read a quote: ”In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learnt about life: It goes on”. This made me smile, because I agree. Whatever happens to us, life goes on. We may choose to linger in the past, lick our wounds and pamper our wounded pride… but life doesn’t care; like Ganga, she keeps on moving… and waits for no one.

When I was younger and suffered from a broken heart or some other disappointment, my mum used to say that ”Honey, time heals…

Gurus, Faith & Destiny... Techniques to Surrender

Yoga Teacher Training in India As we proceed on the path of life, we are inevitably faced with the question of who or what is running this divine show. This is the starting point for all spiritual seekers: ”Who?” and ”Why”? and then ”How?”. If we don’t ask those question we cannot embark on a spiritual journey. Since I have been quite young, I’ve been to fortune tellers and since I came to India I have also visited astrologers, palm readers and psychics. I was desperate to know and yet frightened by the thought…

Sunrise over Delhi

Yoga Teacher Training India The sun is rising over Delhi, turning the smoggy air into shimmering amber. The airport floor is polished into mirror-like perfection, over which we all pull our baggage carts. Dubai, London, Helsinki… destinations and digits on big screens.

I don’t know why, but airports give me a kick and so do train stations?! I feel an almost adrenaline-like rush by the very energy of the travelers going all over the world. Where are they going? What is ending and what is…

So... how is that working for you?

Yoga Teacher Training India 200 Hour How do we know if what we are believing in actually serves us and our spiritual growth? Because to be honest, it seems like a bad idea to believe in concepts or ideas which aren’t working, right? The world is a basket of different beliefs, which you can pick and choose from, so how you see the world depends on which goggles you put on. In my view and with my level of understanding; spirituality is completely meaningless unless it is transformed into practicality. In lovely…

Tantric by nature

Yoga Teacher Training India - Rishikesh After a few years on the path of yoga, I have made the somewhat shocking discovery that I may be more of a tantric by nature, than a yogini. The word tantra means technique and is not concerned with the why of things, but with the how. It is not occupied with what is truth but how the truth can be attained and understood through different techniques. Tantra is not concerned with morality at all and therefore is refreshingly non-judgemental in…

At Fawlty Towers in India

Yoga Teacher Training India - Blog Today is one of those days when India makes me laugh and cry at the same time… Nothing works but everything is possible, rules are made to be broken, everyone is driving on the wrong side of the road and my hotel makes Fawlty Towers look like the Sheraton. I can’t help but be madly in love with India… every time I’m sad and thinking of getting on the next flight ”back to civilization”, India compells me again. The manager on the hotel where I’m staying appears to be…

What You See Is What You Get

Yoga Teacher Training India - RishikeshMirror, mirror on the wall… who’s the fairest of them all?”.

My relationship to Rishikesh and to the path of yoga is a love-story. Not only because romantic love has been a big part of my life here, but because of my relationship to the town and the path itself. Some weeks I see magic everywhere; in the smiles of shopkeepers, the ”namaste’s” from strangers, the warm wind or the glowing stars at night… Sometimes it seems as if every tree has sprung from the…

Born this way!

Yoga Teacher Training India "Excuse me, ma’am… if you have a scarf, could you please cover yourself? This is an ashram and we have a dress commandment here” the plump woman in her mid-forties looks me up and down, obviously very content with herself for reprimanding a sinner in a sleeveless top in front of her two virtuous colleagues. I was in a joyful mood, so I just shrugged and said: ”Sure! I’m just passing through here, but next time I will keep it in mind…” but as I walked off I asked…

Yoga & The Constitution

Yoga in Rishikesh ”If you were just a little whiter, you would look just like Obama!”, the Indian international lawyer exclaimed spontaneously, nodding to the Nigerian barrister. I bit my lip to keep from giggling. This is what I love about India… the almost childlike spontaneity and warmth that sometimes overrides what we in the west cling to and call ”good manners”.

The 22nd of February I had the immense pleasure of attending the International Seminar on ”Constitutional…

Love is a behavior - not just a feeling

Yoga in Rishikesh Today, maybe because it is Valentine’s Day, I feel like writing about love. Few things are so fundamental to human life and to happiness as love is. Not just romantic love, but love in friendship, in family and last but not lease for yourself. However, romantic love often justifies and excuses actions we would in other circumstances find unacceptable. When in love, we sometimes suffer and sacrifice and to ourselves we justify this as ”love hurts” because of the socially,…

Connectivity in Rishikesh

Yoga Teacher Training India Blog Last night I was sitting at Freedom Café in Laxman Jhula, sipping on a hot ginger honey lemon tea and listening to the musicians playing. Harmonium, tablas, a guitar… all blending together beautifully, creating musical magic.

Strangers, passing through this little town on a longer journey, picking up an instrument and instantly connect with the other musicians… across nations, age and culture, connectivity is established. Beginners are connecting with more…

Live forever?

Yoga Teacher Training India Rishikesh To be or not to be is not the question. Will it be fun is!

Walking the path of yoga or choosing any health oriented career path can sometime make you obsessed with health and longevity. But whether we are talking about the benefits of broccoli or of backward bends, we need to stop for a moment and ask ourselves what we are doing and why we are doing it? Because, as Peter F. Drucker said: ”There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which…

From Snake to Scorpion

In the spring of 2008 I went to my first yoga class. My practice between 2008 and 2010 was undisciplined to say the least... an hour once a week, gulping down a caffe latte before class and my favorite asana was no doubt Shavasana. I was as far from a yogini as anyone... But in October 2010 I came to Rishikesh the…
