The 300 Hour Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training in India is offered by a number of yoga ashrams and schools as an intensive programme. The programme will train you to be an Ashtanga yoga teacher who has clear insights about this style of yoga. The training will also take you to an inward journey where you will be able to connect the body, mind and soul.
After you have completed your 200 hour Ashtanga yoga Primary Series from an RYS certified yoga school you can opt for the 300 hour Ashtanga yoga where you will learn the second series or the Intermediate Series of Ashtanga yoga. The Intermediate Series of Ashtanga yoga is taught as a certification course. The certified course has been designed on the recommendations of Yoga Alliance, which recognises its validity. After completion of the course you can register with Yoga Alliance as RYT. The 300 hour Ashtanga yoga teacher training course combined with the previous 200 hour teacher training makes you a 500 hour Ashtanga yoga certified teacher.
During the 300 hour Ashtanga yoga teacher training you will practice the Primary Series and learn the Intermediate Series sequences along with the breath control and adjustment. In modern Ashtanga, as created by K. Pattabhi Jois, the asana practice consists of pranayama, asana as well as dristhi which is the ‘looking place’ while doing the asana. During 300 hour teacher training emphasis is laid on these three aspects as they develop the outward body, the nervous system as well as the mind will lead to inward awakening. This teacher training also makes you more aware of physiological processes that come into play during the performance of an asana. Another important practice taught in conjunction with breath control, asana, drishti is bandhas or internal locks in the body. These practices enable you to complete the asana sequence successfully and get the full benefits of the practice.
The 300 hour Ashtanga yoga programme is also open to anyone who has knowledge and practice of Ashtanga yoga and wants to upgrade to the Intermediate Series after having done the Primary Series. You can complete your 200 hour Ashtanga yoga training in any yoga school and take up the 300 hour Ashtanga yoga in another yoga school. The intensive programme trains you to teach Ashtanga yoga as a professional and also allows you to experience a personal transformation.

Each sequence of asana taught is a progression of the previous asana sequence and so unless the previous sequence is mastered you cannot progress to the next. Ashtanga yoga schools have experienced instructors who provide personal attention and are fully conversant in guiding you to make physical adjustments during asana practice. If you wish to be an effective Ashtanga yoga teacher when you conduct your own classes then you will have to ensure you carry out a daily practice of Ashtanga sequences.
